The main ingredient is the polymers called aliphatic anhydride (PAH).
They’re a relatively new, inexpensive, and easy-to-use additive that has the potential to make your projects lighter, stronger, and more durable.
PAH has been around for decades, but until recently, its use was limited to cosmetics and household products.
But recently, a team of researchers at the University of Texas in Austin and the University at Buffalo in New York have developed a new PAH that’s capable of creating durable and highly pigmented paints.
Their research was published in the journal ACS Nano.
The researchers used a combination of PAHs and a mixture of polymers to create a new type of PAHO that’s lighter, stiffer, and stronger than the existing material.
They call it PAH-based paint.
The new material, called PPG-based paints, is a “non-pigmented polymer with highly porous, high-tensile strength and high porosity,” the researchers write.
“The unique properties of this unique polymer allow it to be used in paint and ink as well as in products such as household paints and in industrial processes.”
Their research has implications for everything from the way we paint and paint products to how we paint buildings and cars.
For starters, PAH paints have the potential for being much lighter and stronger.
“Our work shows that these non-paginated PAH polymer structures can be used to produce highly durable and strong paints with good surface properties,” lead author and professor of chemistry at UT Austin, Eric Sorensen, said in a statement.
“They have good surface elasticity and resistance to bending under high loads and stress.
These properties can be important when using high-performance paints for industrial applications.”
The new PPGP paints can be made from alginates and other polymers with a “very high porosities,” according to the researchers.
Alginates are highly stable in water and can be easily mixed with paint.
They can also be produced from natural materials, like alginic acid or boric acid.
The scientists suggest that PPG paint could be used for a variety of applications.
For example, a company could coat an object like a bicycle frame with a PPG or a paint with PPG.
They could use PPG to create an adhesive that will hold the frame together.
Or they could paint a car window with PGG paints.
PPGs could be combined with other polymeric materials to make high-strength paints that are stronger than paint that would normally be used.
“This new type PAH paint offers many advantages over previous non-porous PAH polymers,” the scientists write.
For one thing, PPG and other PAH materials are easy to work with.
“These compounds are easily available, inexpensive and readily available,” the team writes.
“Their low porosity and high strength make them ideal for application to paints, adhesives and other substrates.”
They also have the ability to absorb water, making them an ideal solution for water-based solutions.
PGHs also have good mechanical properties, the researchers say.
“PPG is a non-aqueous polymer with high elastic properties, low viscosity and a high mechanical strength,” the authors write.
The research is published in ACS Nano .
